T-Shirt Tuesday - Take a Break

As promised, we have more Thanksgiving tees available at The Scrap Shoppe! Today's T-Shirt Tuesday features a design for busy scrapbookers who want to let people know that, yes, scrapbookers are capable of taking a break from scrapbooking on Thanksgiving. At least for a few hours anyway!

Did you know we carry women's plus size tees in our store? They are available in two styles: scoop neck and v-neck, both of which are available in black or white.

Bling Pumpkins

Looking to add a little bling to your fall decorations? Have a go at making one of these bling pumpkins! They are super easy and look great on your mantle.

Items needed:
Faux pumpkin
Sharpie
Drill with half inch bit
Bling
Stickles
Faux stem and leaves
Battery operated tea light

Take your faux pumpkin and mark where you want to drill your holes using a Sharpie. Don't forget to mark a large hole on the bottom of the pumpkin so you can put a tea light inside when you're finished. Drill the holes and be sure to wipe away all the dust.

Start addeding your bling! I used a few of the large Prima blings over a few of my holes to make the light coming out from the tea light more interesting. I also used black, orange, purple, and green adhesive-backed pieces of bling and scattered them around the pumpkin. I then used coordinating Stickles around each piece of bling.

I took an old stem with flower leaves on it and trimmed it so it would fit into the top of the pumpkin (I just stuck it in the foam, no glue or anything). I took the leftover stem and wound it around a rub on tool to make a tendril for the pumpkin. I attached it in the same way as the stem - just stuck it into the foam.

I also added some stickles to the stem of the pumpkin, leaves, and tendril.

I think the pumpkin is a great addition to my mantle!

I'm also trying out my new logo on my images. Its simple and easily identifiable. I'm really liking it! You'll also notice in my banner at the top of the blog and just about everywhere else I'm advertising The Scrap Shoppe.

Scrapbooking with YouTube

There are so many ways out there in the great big world to learn new techniques and tricks when it comes to scrapbooking. People blog about techniques, some people dedicate entire websites to techniques and tips, others even make videos on various techniques.

I don't know about you, but I'm a very visual person. Pictures are great, but you know what? Video is even better!

Here are just a couple of videos I found available on YouTube that I thought were fantastic:

Scrapbooking with Techniques

Did you know that you can go to YouTube and find just about anything you want to know about scrapbooking? I was pretty impressed by the volume of videos, not to mention the quality of videos from many of the posters. Here are a few other informational videos I really enjoyed...

Choosing an Ink Pad

Storage Ideas

Tag Art

There are even videos for digital scrapbookers: Digital Scrapbooking

Even companies are getting in on the YouTube action. This video is provided by Cricut: Flower Bouquet

So the next time you want to learn a new scrapbook technique, see how others keep their scrap room in order, or what the best paper for a project is, give YouTube a whirl! I know I'll be using it as a resource more often.

T-Shirt Tuesday - Thank Goodness

Its turkey time!! I don't know about you, but I really don't like it when stores get out all of their Christmas decorations in November (okay, some places have had them out longer than that!) and completely gloss over Thanksgiving.

Here at The Scrap Shoppe, we want to pay homage to our ancestors that crossed the ocean so that we could have a new life in America by celebrating Thanksgiving the entire month of November. And by paying homage, I of course mean we will be showing off Thanksgiving tees every T-Shirt Tuesday of this month!

If you've visited the shoppe lately you may have noticed we don't have that many designs for Thanksgiving... YET! We're working on creating more and will have a new one to showcase each Tuesday.

Let's start this week with our Thank Goodness design. Thank goodness for scrapbooking, that is!

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all things, including being able to participate in your favorite hobbies! Our Thank Goodness design is also available on buttons, tote bags, and mugs!

Crafty Costumes

I hope everyone had a happy Halloween yesterday! My nearly 14-month old son was a firefighter for Halloween this year (thanks to all the fireman gear his grandmother got him for his birthday in September! thanks, Grandma!). My DH and I decided we would coordinate our costumes to match our little firefighter! I was a dalmation and DH was a fire hydrant.

We're all about making our costumes from scratch.

My costume involved wearing white from head to toe. I bought sticky-back felt and cut a bunch of circles out of it and attached it to my cloths. I use regular black felt to cut out ear and attached them to a black headband (adding a little wire to make the ear stick out instead of just hanging against the headband). I also added a flower to the ears just to show I was a *pampered* pooch. I happened to have a dalmation charm which I added to a piece of silk ribbon that acted as my dog colloar. Top all of that off with some black lipstick on the nose, and voilĂ ! Dalmation!

DH started of with a large rectangular box of cardboard that he folded into a hexagon. We cut other pieces of cardboard to add more detail to the hydrant. More cardboard for the hat. A couple of perfect pieces of PVC pipe finished it off perfectly. DH spray painted a layer of primer and 2 coats of red. He added some chain to the nossle of the hydrant and some nylon belts to act as suspenders. He simply wore some red sweats underneath.

Now we'll have to continue this family them in the future because it was so fun!
