Crepe Paper Flower Decoration {& 2 WINNERS!!}

Its time to announce the winners of my little party!! Many thanks to my first 100 followers and the new ones I've gained since then. But, alas, I'm going to make you read through my tutorial before I tell you who won! (I know, I know. You're already preparing to scroll down to the winners. Just promise you'll come back up and read about my crepe paper flower decoration when you're done!!)

------------------------------------------------------------

When I shared my cupcake topper ideas with you a couple of weeks ago (don't forget to go back and grab the free download!), one of the images I shared was #6 below.

I made up a little tutorial to show you how I did it.

Ready?

Here are the things you'll need:

1. Cupcake toppers!

2. Crepe paper roses

3. Distress ink

4. Masking tape

5. Spanish moss

6. Bamboo skewers

7. Vase

8. Scissors

9. Smooth river rocks

House of Smiths has a great tutorial on how to make roses out of crepe paper. You can find it here. Its just like making a rolled rose out of fabric. The main thing you need to be careful of when making them is not to smoosh the center as you wrap the flower.

I inked the edges of the petals with distress ink to make them stand out more.

I also used the distress ink on my bamboo skewers for more contrast.

I skipped a step or two here as far as the pictures go. I added a little bit of moss to my vase, then added some rocks, then more moss, then more rocks... you get the idea! I then added my skewers, trying to make them spread out as much as possible.

I attached one of my roses to a skewer towards the back with some masking tape.

Then I trimmed all of the rest of the skewers with my scissors to be at different heights. Then I attached the rest of my crepe paper roses and cupcake toppers.

Sitting pretty on my mantle! But wait, it doesn't feel complete. It needs something else...

There, that's better! I added the smaller accent dots from my cupcake topper kit to the side of the vase. I just ran them through my sticker maker which means I can take them off again later if I want to use this vase in another project!

------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, on with the winners!!

Nobody guessed the exact number of flowers, but msilba was the closest at 36!

The second winner (chosen by Random.org) is................
Congratulations Laura @ Along for the Ride!

Both of you email me at mmcustomcreations@dmaks.com with your mailing addresses.

Laura, select a flower, any flower! Let me know if you want the flower on a small alligator clip, pinback, bobby pin, or left as is with just the felt backing. Also, please select any one digital download from my Etsy shop.

You both have a week to contact me, or we'll select another winner. Congratulations!!

Shrink that Button!

A quick reminder to come join my party if you haven't already!
I'm celebrating gaining 100 followers with a

-------------------------------------------------------

If you haven't noticed in my sidebar already, I have about 10 bazillion McLinky parties that I participate in each week. In order to let people know you are participating in the parties you have to show a link somewhere on your blog. And since I have so many, I've shrunk them down so my blog isn't a mile long.

I've been asked how I shrunk the buttons a couple of times so I've decided to share the super secret HTML code with you.

Let's use my button code as an example:

< a href="http://mmscrapshoppe.blogspot.com" target="_blank" >< img src="http://www.mmscrapshoppe.com/blog/MMScrapShoppeBlog.jpg" / >< /a >

(Note that I have extra spaces after every "<" and before every ">". I only did that to get the code to show in this post. You do not want these spaces when you use the code in real life!)

Altered code:

< a href="http://mmscrapshoppe.blogspot.com" target="_blank" >< img src="http://www.mmscrapshoppe.com/blog/MMScrapShoppeBlog.jpg" width="40%"/ >< /a >

Super tricky, eh? Just add the width command after the image link. You may have to play around with the actual percentage to make it work for your particular blog. 40% works great for mine. Don't forget the quotation marks!

I also do not use any link break commands. That way the code makes all of the buttons fall into place quite nicely. And I usually get ride of the < center > command if it is included with someone's button code. Its just extra code taking up space. If you want your images centered, you only need to say so once.

Example:

< div align="center" >
< a href="http://mmscrapshoppe.blogspot.com" target="_blank" >< img src="http://www.mmscrapshoppe.com/blog/MMScrapShoppeBlog.jpg" width="40%"/ >< /a >
< a href="http://mmscrapshoppe.blogspot.com" target="_blank" >< img src="http://www.mmscrapshoppe.com/blog/MMScrapShoppeBlog.jpg" width="40%"/ >< /a >
< a href="http://mmscrapshoppe.blogspot.com" target="_blank" >< img src="http://www.mmscrapshoppe.com/blog/MMScrapShoppeBlog.jpg" width="40%"/ >< /a >
< a href="http://mmscrapshoppe.blogspot.com" target="_blank" >< img src="http://www.mmscrapshoppe.com/blog/MMScrapShoppeBlog.jpg" width="40%"/ >< /a >
< /center >< /div>

The < div align="center" > command at the top of the code makes everything after it centered on your page so you don't have to repetitiously use the < center > command. Just be sure that after you have added all your buttons you close the command with < /center > and < /div >.

And that's shrinking a blog button 101!!

Fabric Flower Necklace Tutorial {& a PARTY!}

The party is over and we have our winners! Click here to see who won!

Who's ready to celebrate with me? 100 blog followers!! Yeah!

We're going to start the party off with a quick tutorial for making fabric flower necklaces.

Ready?

Then let's get started!

You will need to make however many rolled roses you want to use in the necklace. I'm going to use three.

If you don't know how to make rolled roses, Portabello Pixie has a great tutorial here.

Stitch the flowers together. Be sure and stitch up the sides between the flowers, too. We don't want any flopping around!

Don't worry if it looks messy. We'll cover that up later!

Here are my three flowers stitched together. Go ahead and add any pearls or buttons to the flowers. You can stitch them on or attach them with glue.

Turn your necklace back over to the back and cut a piece of similarly colored strip of felt that would be able to completely cover the back.

Stitch or glue the felt to the back of the flowers.

Trim off any excess felt.

Add the necessary hardware to your necklace. You can use beads, chain, ribbon, or whatever else you come up with to make the flowers into a necklace.

Viola! A unique piece of jewelry!

Okay, on with the party!

To celebrate this milestone of the blog we're going to play a little game.

And we're going to have 2 winners!

For the first part of the game:

1. Leave a comment telling me how many fabric flowers you think I have been hoarding in this glass jar. The first one to guess the correct number wins!
ONE GUESS PER PERSON! Only your first guess will count if you guess more than once.

The winner who guesses the correct number will receive this:

Ooooooh!
Aaaaaah!

I'm infatuated with the fabric used in the middle rolled rose. Its a fun turquoise, cream, and brown. Love it!

This necklace ties on with a sheer brown ribbon so you can adjust it to any length you like.

To be in the running for the 2nd winner:

1. Become a follower of The Scrap Shoppe Blog and leave a comment that you're a follower or are already a follower.

2. Tweet about this giveaway and leave a comment here that you tweeted. Click here to tweet now!

*** Leave separate comments for each of the above actions to increase your chances of winning!
The second winner will get to pick a flower from the jar AND choose a digital download from my Etsy store (including the cupcake toppers I showed off last weekend!).

I can put the flower you choose on a small alligator clip, pinback, bobby pin, or leave it as is with just the felt backing.

Things to know

1. The giveaway will close on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at midnight EST (any entries after that will not be considered).

2. The second winner will be randomly chosen using the random number generator from random.org.

3. The winner will be announced next Sunday, April 25th. If I don't hear from the winners within a week, new winners will be chosen.

Thanks for partying with me!

1 Away from 100!

I can barely believe it! Just 1 away from 100 blog followers!!

I think when I hit this milestone we may have to have a party.

Or at the very least a giveaway!

What do you think?

I ♥ my followers!
