New Dry Erase Vinyl Winner!

I never heard from Suzie. :(

Sorry, Suzie!

So our new winner of the dry erase vinyl is.....

Thelma who said, "I would use it in my pantry also, I'm using your whole menu planning system. Thanks for the great ideas. Also I want to frame a piece and hang it in the playroom for my grandchildren to use. I know they would love it. Thanks Thelma."

I have your email address, Thelma, so look for an email from me!

Pumpkins, Trick or Treating, & Candy. Oh My!

I'm back again!

Is this 3 posts in one day? And one more to go after this?
I may have set a new record for myself! :)

As promised, here is a photo of our jack-o-lanterns and my GORGEOUS mums!

Notice anything about my shadow?
I might be showing my true colors. lol!

And a little later in the evening, we're all lit up!

We had one completely pooped out little boy from trick or treating, and
one that was still ready to go!

Luckily, my crazy little football player wound down pretty quickly.

I hope everyone had a great Halloween!

Happy Halloween! {2011}

Happy Halloween!

I never did get a chance to write Social Saturday over the weekend.
Things were crazy busy around here!
Here are some highlights of what has been going on.

The weekend started off with a bang with a trip to a
little musical you may have heard of...
WICKED was FABULOUS!

Totally loved it and want the soundtrack for Christmas. :)

Now on to more Halloween-y type things.

Hmmmm....
Kids or treats?
Kids or treats?

Which to share first??

Kids!!
How cute are these boys??
They get to wear their costumes to daycare today for a Halloween party.

Not quite as elaborate as last year's pirate costume, but this little football player and football are complete cuties in my book.

Little Man's costume was super easy to put together.
We already had the football jersey and the helmet.
I just purchased a long sleeve white t-shirt and gray sweatpants that I rolled up to the knee.
Hike those socks up and you're a football player!

And I've got a quick and easy tutorial for Baby Boy's football onesie.
Supplies:
brown onesie (Hobby Lobby)
white material (old maternity shirt)
fusible webbing
scissors & iron

I cut off half the the v-neck collar so I would have a nice long piece of material to play with. It was also the perfect width! Since the material on the collar is actually double thick from being folded over, I cut it into one layer which gave me two strips of material of the same width.

I trimmed the pieces of material to fit my onesie.
And, yes, footballs have 8 laces, and I only have 7. I ran out of room!
(And, yes, I'm a complete nerd and looked that up!)
I followed the instructions for using the fusible webbing and ironed on all of my pieces.

Pretty cute and not bad for a quick costume!

Baby Boy is also wearing a UT jumpsuit.
Mostly to keep warm, but it adds to the fact that he is a
University of TN football. ;)

Now on to the treats!
The kids at school get to "trick or treat" with each other so I made
the infamous mummy wraps that are all over the web.

So fun!

I've got a quick tutorial, too, since mine are in mini form.
I don't know if its different than the large bars, but I haven't looked at any directions.

Supplies:
snack size Hershey bars
white crepe paper
scissors
scrap black paper
brown distress ink
white and black glitter glue
double-sided tape

1. Since I could probably only wrap the crepe paper twice around the candy bars as is (which would be pretty boring for a mummy), I cut strips of my crepe paper in half lengthwise
(each strip was roughly 10-12" long).

2. I wrapped the candy bar longways first, using my double-sided tape on the ends of the crepe paper. This way the top and bottom of the mummies will be covered.

3. Next, wrap around the short side of the candy bars.

4. Cut a small square of the black scrap paper and tape it down ~1/2 and inch from the top of the candy bar.

5. Wrap around the short side of the candy bar again with crepe paper, but leave a sliver of the black paper showing.

6. Optional: ink the edges of the crepe paper with brown distress ink.

6. I didn't have any googly eyes, so I used glitter glue instead. Put a large circle of white glitter glue on the black paper.

7. Allow the white glitter glue to dry then add a small circle of the black glitter glue on top of the white.

And there you have it!
Mini Candy Bar Mummies!

For the Halloween party at daycare I made spider cupcakes.
(A big thanks to Christy Wallingford on Facebook for the suggestion!!)

These were really fun to make!

M&M's for the eyes, black licorice cut into small strips for the legs, sprinkles for the body.

I think they will be a big hit with the 3 year olds!

And, finally, a concoction I'm dubbing Halloween Munch!

Halloween Munch
Quaker Oatmeal Squares
miniature marshmallows
small pretzel rods
honey roasted peanuts
Reese's Pieces
M&M's
Autumn Candy Corn mix

Toss & Enjoy!

The munch I actually made for work so I bagged it up in these cute little
Halloween treat bags I found at Target.

We have a lot of undergraduate students that work in our lab,
so I knew they would love a special Halloween snack today!
My coworkers received bags also.

So that is what I have been up to the last couple of days!
No wonder I missed Social Saturday, huh? :)

I'll be back yet again this evening with a look at our pumpkins we carved yesterday and share a pic of them all lit up and, of course, the aftermath of trick or treating!

Featured on Roadkill Rescue!

Hi crafty peeps!

I wanted to let you know one of my projects
was featured on Roadkill Rescue over the weekend!

It was an older project, but I thought it would be perfect for the new{ish} website!

Beckie from Infarrantly Creative is the brains behind the operation.
She describes a rescue project as "something that you got for free. This means someone gave it to you, you found it on the curb, it was a hand-me-down, or it was ready to be thrown away."

I encourage you to go submit a project you think fits the bill of a rescue!

Tell Beckie I sent ya. ;)

And while you're there looking around at all of the great projects being featured,
don't miss mine!

Back later with lots of Halloween fun!

Winner of the Dry Erase Vinyl!

We have a winner!

First, thank you everyone who entered!
You gave me some brilliant ideas on how to use my other sheet of dry erase vinyl.

This is the start of a couple of giveaways that will be coming to the blog in November. Very exciting!

Okay, okay... on with the winner!

My Photo
Congrats to Suzie H who said...
I would use the vinyl to cover the door of an unsightly freezer we have in our home that could really use a makeover!

A freezer makeover sounds like a fabulous use of the vinyl!
Susie, I don't have your email address to contact you so you have until Sunday night to email me!

I'll be back later tonight with Social Saturday.
We are headed to see Wicked in a few hours!
*squeal!!!!!*
And hopefully we will have a chance to finally carve our pumpkins for Halloween. :)

Eclectic Braided Bracelet

Oh me, oh my!
This may be one of my favorite pieces of jewelry I've made yet!

I'm dubbing this one the
Eclectic Braided Bracelet.

I found this fabulous silver and pink version on Pinterest and knew I would have to make one for myself. Unfortunately the link to the bracelet no longer exists, but it originated from Karma Loop

I went for a gray and silver version since my wardrobe tends to be
a bit of a monochromatic symphony of white, black, and gray.

Unfortunately this is not a step by step tutorial.
Its more of a "giving you the gist of it" type follow along. :)

Also, its my first jewelry knock off!

Supplies
3 different sizes of silver chain
large round & oval silver chain
gray pearls
silver beads
gray cording
silver ribbon (did not end up using...)
silver tulle
white &s silver sparkly fabric
3-strand bracelet clasp

To prep the fabric, I cut it into strips and threaded the tulle through the large silver chain.

I separated out the pieces I wanted to used in each of my 3 strands of the braid. Then I attached each strand to a single jump ring which I then attached to the bracelet clasp.

I started braiding, being sure to keep the thinner pieces on top of the wider pieces in each strand.

I continued the braid until the bracelet was long enough to fit around my wrist. Then I trimmed the strands and fitted the ends to jump rings.

By now my braid had worked loose from all of the manipulating of the jump rings so I simply redid it keeping it a combination of tight to keep its shape, but loose so that the there wasn't a lot of tension on the strands. I don't want anything breaking later!

Now that I had a nice "tight" braid, I attached the loose jump ring ends to the other side of the bracelet clasp.

I trimmed down my fabric. The ends are the prettiest thing ever, but hopefully there is so much going on with the bracelet that no one will notice. ;)

I.Love.This!!!

Its really something I can wear with almost anything!

It can be dressy or casual.

Doesn't it look like a hot mess?
(But in a good way!)

Now do you see why I called it eclectic? :)

I'm thinking I may need more versions of these for those moments when my wardrobe grabs a little color. These could easily be created for any color scheme with the addition of a strip of fabric or some ribbon!

What color would you make?

Dry Erase Vinyl Giveaway! - CLOSED

Happy Monday, y'all!

I thought we would start the week off right with a fun giveaway.

Remember the makeover I gave my pantry doors with the
dry erase self-adhesive vinyl
as part of my new meal plan
(Which is still working wonderfully, by the way!)

Well, I received a lot of feedback of people not being able to find the vinyl at their local JoAnn stores or online. I searched for it myself on the internet completely without luck.

BUT, my JoAnn store still appears to be carrying it SO I bought another set of the vinyl to giveaway to one lucky reader!

So what you are entering to win is
ONE tube of dry erase self-adhesive vinyl.
In the tube is two sheets of vinyl, each measuring 39.25"x23.25".
Marker included!
The material is clear with a green flourish pattern.

See my pantry doors post to see more photos of how I used the vinyl!

Social Saturday - Pumpkin Patch

Today is the day we finally hit the pumpkin patch!

We like to wait until a little closer to Halloween to pick ours out.
And we probably won't carve them until late next week or the weekend.

The way we've been picking out pumpkins the last couple of years, everybody gets their own.
So this year we were up to four!

The patch we went to is great. TONS of pumpkins to choose from!
We kept the sizes to what we could carry,
but next year we might need to take a sling to bring back a big one. ;)

(All the pumpkins in the patch cost the same no matter the size!)

This little guy really seemed to enjoy his first pumpkin picking experience!

And this little guy was a trooper and carried his baby brother's pumpkin back to the car!

You won't believe the gorgeous mums I scooped up either!
I'll show them off next weekend when I share the "Halloween-ified" front porch. :)

Have you picked your pumpkins yet?
